Tributes have poured in as police confirmed the cyclist who died following a crash on the A760 between Kilbirnie and Largs was 32-year-old Euan Thomson.
Euan was well known and loved locally, and was a popular figure with rugby side Ardrossan Academicals RFC.
He featured for many years as part of their first XV side, often playing alongside his younger brother Jamie.
The Accies called off their arranged pre-season match with Greenock Wanderers at the weekend as a mark of respect to Euan and his family.
He was also a charitable man, and in July of 2021 completed a 58-kilometre ultra marathon as he raised an incredible £1,800 for the British Heart Foundation.
Many of those who had been acquainted with Euan were quick to pay tribute to him, upon discovering the heartbreaking news.
One person said: "Absolutely shocked, such a good guy. All thoughts and prayers to his family, friends and to Ardrossan Accies rugby during this hard time."
While another added: "I cannot believe this. Such heartbreaking news, a lovely family and I have nothing but kind words to say about Euan.
"Sincere condolences, thoughts with all family and friends."
His rugby club added their own tribute to 'ET' earlier today, August 15.
They said: "It is with great sadness that Ardrossan Academicals lost one of our family.
"Euan Thomson, known as ET, passed away as a result of a road traffic accident. Euan was until recently a prominent fixture in our 1st XV stepping back from playing to concentrate on coaching our youngest players.
"ET will be much missed by everyone at the Club. Our deepest sympathies are extended to his family."
Police confirmed that Euan was the cyclist involved in the crash on Friday evening, August 12.
The incident happened around 6.35am on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, and also involved a white Mercedes van.
Sergeant Stewart Taylor said: “Our thoughts are very much with Euan’s family at this very difficult time and they have asked for privacy.
“Enquiries into the crash are continuing and anyone who has information that could assist, and has not already spoken to officers, can contact us via 101, quoting incident number 0494 of Wednesday, August 10, 2022.”
Our thoughts go out to Euan's family and friends at this tragic time.
