Council cuts £350,000 from flood prevention schemes as residents suffer
DAYS before Kilbirnie was devastated by a flash flood the council revealed plans to cut £350,000 from the budget set aside for a flood prevention scheme in the town.
At a meeting which revised capital revenue the council decided that the original £400,000 which was to be spent on the Kilbirnie and Glengarnock scheme would be revised.
The new amount now stands at £50,000, a decision made a mere few days before the River Garnock burst its banks leading to chaos in Kilbirnie and Glengarnock.
A statement released from North Ayrshire Council stated: 'Investigations
are continuing into why the River Garnock burst its banks and flooded
part of Kilbirnie town centre early on Friday morning."
