Clydesdale Bank SPL: KILMARNOCK 1 CELTIC 0
Stewart McConnell at Rugby Park
NINE years of hurt for Killie fans were banished by a man who had made an unheralded entrance to Rugby Park several hours earlier and was expected by many to play a supporting role to the bumper box-office attraction.
Chris Maguire scored the vital goal which helped the hosts sensationally pull off their first victory against the Hoops since 2001 and in an raucous atmosphere akin to a rock concert was the clear winner in the battle of debutants against Robbie Keane who had made a no-expenses spared arrival in Glasgow on a private jet late on Monday night.
And he sent spirits positively soaring among the home fans who had become so used to tasting defeat against the Hoops with the win keeping them two points clear of Falkirk, who pulled off a shock victory against Maguire and Calderwood's former side at Pittodrie.
It was the first SPL victory in NINE games for Killie and the first in the league for the new boss but given it was against such quality opposition what a confidence lift it will give everyone at Rugby Park in the battle to beat the drop.
