IT WAS a night to remember on Tuesday, April 22, with the grand opening of Cecchini's Italian restaurant and bistro, situated at Ardrossan Marina.

Special guests for the evening included Provost Bobby Rae, and also the Mayor of Barga, Emberto Sereni, who made the trip from Italy to attend this special occasion.

Mayor Sereni said: 'We must thank the Cecchini family for their hard work. We like this kind of Italian who works hard, in the same way we like this kind of Scotland.

'Scotland is a country of people who work hard.'

Mayor Sereni continued: 'We hope that the Provost of North Ayrshire can visit Barga next summer. We are waiting for you.'

During the opening ceremony, Provost Rae said: 'It is good to see so many people here tonight at the opening of this restaurant, a much needed facility for Ardrossan.

'I hope you draw your clients from more than Ardrossan as there are plenty of towns about and they are all looking for good food.

'I wish every success to the family Cecchini and every success to the friendship between us and Barga.'

The Mayor of Barga brought with him some special gifts for the Cecchini family, with Anthony receiving an Italian flag and an exquisite painting, while Aldo was presented with an Italian football top, as worn by Del Piero in the 2006 World Cup.

The Herald was at the opening ceremony and bring you these exclusive video highlights of the event.
