A KILWINNING figure skater has won gold at the Young Adult British Open at the Ice Sheffield rink.
Ashleigh Johnstone took first place out of the 18 competitors in her age group and won the gold medal within the under-28s Young Adults category.
Her excellent personal score of 30.3 ensured she also finished as runner-up in the overall ladies competition – The British Adult Ice Skating Championship 2014.
Ashleigh, 22, is a member of Auchenharvie Ice Figure Skating Club. She graduated from university last year and juggles skating with her job as a staff nurse at Crosshouse Hospital, coaching youngsters in the club, serving on the committee – as well as being mum to four-year-old son Zack.
Just as well she has a good sense of balance!
Her success means that she will compete in the European Young Adult Championship in Oberstdoft, Germany before concentrating full-time on coaching the Harvie’s kids.
