DRAMATIC scenes quickly unfolded on Monday evening, when local emergency services rushed with full lights and sirens to Saltcoats Harbour, responding to reports of a man in difficulty in the water.
Police, ambulance, coastguard and the RNLI were all in attendance as events escalated into a full-scale rescue drama, initiated by a hero police officer, to rescue a male struggling to stay above the water within the harbour.
As emergency personnel arrived on scene, an officer from Saltcoats Police Station precariously made his way across the dangerous rocky outcrops to the waters edge to asses the situation. Minutes later, the casualty began shouting for help and was clearly struggling to stay afloat.
His cries could clearly be heard by onlookers who had gathered around the harbour. Realising the imminent threat to life, the local police officer took the initiative and swung into action.
