STRUCTURAL engineers are this week assessing the current status of the EU Congregational Church which has been has been standing in Ardrossan"s Glasgow street for the past 104 years.
Over that time, the harsh weather conditions of the west coast have started to take their toll on the red sandstone landmark and although initial findings indicate that the building and its large eye-catching stained-glass windows are perfectly safe, extensive work is going to be required to protect the building from further wear and tear. Minister Jim Smith, pictured left, told The Herald: 'A lot of work is required on the sandstone following years of weathering. The final estimate is still pending but it is going to run into thousands, and we have started to raise funds to cover costs.
'We are also in the process of preparing to apply for grants from organisations including Heritage Scotland and also the Community Development Fund.`
