POLICE are hunting a callous thug who caused thousands of pounds-worth of damage by firing a weapon at shop windows.
The senseless rampage late on Sunday night left Saltcoats town centre shop staff counting the cost AND picking up the pieces the next day.
An airgun is believed to have been used for the wanton vandalism, illustrated here.
The premises affected are all located within pedestrianised Dockhead Street, and all took multiple hits from the gun. Shopkeepers arrived at work as usual on Monday morning to find their windows laced with holes.
Pound Express, Help The Aged and Bickets the Butchers were all targeted in a rampage of mindless vandalism with the use of an illegal firearm. The UK has strict laws on offensive weapons, and it is illegal under UK firearms law to carry a loaded air weapon in a public place. If the weapon is carried with the intent of damaging property, there is a maximum custodial sentence of 10 years.
