A FISHING vessel picked up more than it bargained for while on routine fishing operations in the Clyde.
The Jubilee Star was fishing five and a half miles due west of Ardrossan Harbour when the boat"s nets were snagged on an unidentified object that brought the vessel to a standstill.
Following some careful manoeuvring by the boat"s captain, the damaged fishing nets were reeled in along with a large military anchor, believed to date back to World War 2.
The discovery was made early on Monday, April 28 and with damaged nets and a bent propeller, the Jubilee Star set sail for Ardrossan harbour, along with its new found cargo secured to the side of the vessel. A phone call on route to local fisherman Davie Hodge sparked a buzz of interest around the marina regarding the origins of this significant find.
UPDATE (Thursday) The MOD are arriving next week to assist with discovering the origins of the historic find. MORE DETAILS TO FOLLOW AS WE HAVE THEM.
