PARENTS of youngsters attending Ardrossan's newly-rebuilt Stanley Primary say they are shocked and alarmed at plans to site a 50-foot-high mobile phone mast around 50 metres from the school playground.

The Vodafone proposals are for a radio base station on the junction of Dalry Road and Stanley Road - adjacent to the site of the old Stanley PS, which has been allocated for housing.

Samantha Stevenston, chairwoman of Stanley's Parents' Council says mums and dads are dismayed at the news.

"We're very worried: " She told the Herald.

"Children are at more risk of absorbing even small levels of radiation than adults. This needs to be stopped."
