TWO teenagers who set fires in a house knowing that a mum-of-five and three young children were asleep upstairs have been sentenced to a total of 24 years.

Brave Angela Brown (31) rescued a three-year-old girl from her home in Kilwinning but was overcome after returning to the blazing house to recover two young boys still trapped inside.

Stephen Muir (16) and a 15-year-old - who cannot be named for legal reasons - were each caged for 12 years for the sickening crime on Monday. Both had pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of culpable homicide, having denied murdering Ms Brown.

Judge Bill Dunlop told them: "By the time you are released, neither of you will have reached the age of the mother whose life you took."
