Violence a factor as North Ayrshire tops the table.

MORE than 1,300 North Ayrshire schoolchildren were excluded for violent, abusive or disobedient behaviour during the 2008/2009 session, new figures show.

That's well above the figure for neighbours East Ayrshire and TWICE as bad as the situation in the south of the county.

Despite that, the findings by National Statistics Scotland (NSS) actually show a 27 per cent fall on 2007/2008, making the local area the second-most-improved for suspensions in the whole of Scotland.
