SMOKE filled the skies over Stevenston on Friday evening after bush fires raced through part of the former ICI Ardeer site.

The flames were eventually brought under control by Strathclyde Fire and Rescue after several hours work.

Kilwinning Station Commander Mark Gallagher said: "We were notified at about 5.30pm and discovered that large area of gorse and trees were alight."
