A 19-YEAR-OLD from Ardrossan was recently given the prestigious position of ambassador for the Duke of Edinburgh's Award in Scotland.
Lisa Heenan was originally nominated by her award leaders due to her commitment and overall knowledge of the award. She then went for an interview before the Scottish award office staff, where she gave a presentation about her positive experiences during her three years with the Oasis New Start award group in North Ayrshire.
Those experiences included becoming a volunteer local radio DJ, learning to swim for her physical section, scaling a 75ft abseil wall (even though she is scared of heights) and expeditions on both Arran and in the Galloway hills on foot and by mountain bike.
