THE Ardeer Quarry in Stevenston looks set for a revamp after the announcement it will become a Green Gym.

The new scheme which gives locals the chance to improve their health, fitness and the environment has branched out to include Stevenston.

North Ayrshire's Green Gym is a unique project which helps you become healthier, both physically and mentally.

Unlike ordinary gyms, there are no treadmills, rowing machines or weights to worry about. Instead, participants can keep in shape by hedge pruning, re-mulching paths, clearing ivy and brambles from headstones and lopping sycamores. The new Stevenston Green Gym will start up in August, joining those already operating in Kilbirnie and Irvine.
