Ardrossan fire caused by pan

FIRE crews were called out to an Ardrossan house on Monday morning after a grill pan caught fire.

Firefighters from Ardrossan and Kilwinning Community Fire Stations responded to the incident at North Crescent Road at 11.11am, where a two-person team wearing breathing equipment extinguished a grill pan fire in the kitchen and ventilated the property before leaving the scene at around 12.05pm.

It is reported that a neighbour attempted to extinguish the fire using damp towels before fire crews arrived, and that an 11-year-old female suffering from slight smoke inhalation was examined by paramedics on the scene but did not require further medical treatment.

Ardrossan Station Commander Derek Davidson commented: "This was an event which could have had far reaching implications. It seems that the bravery and common sense of a neighbour had suppressed the flames somewhat which allowed our crews to tackle what could have been a much more substantial blaze with relative ease. Information we have suggests that the smoke detectors within the premises had only recently been removed as they were defective and that the householder had not managed to replace them as yet."
