AN arty St Matthew's Academy pupil has seen his design for a Sydney Opera House-style beach hut come to life on Ardrossan's South Beach.
Standard Grade art and design pupil, Scott Mitchell (15) won Irvine Bay's Beach Hut design competition and worked with chartered architects, McMillan and Cronin, to develop scale drawings used to construct the eye-catching hut currently on display.
Scott commented: "I have been down at the beach hut everyday as it was being built and I am so pleased with the end result. It looks fantastic and I'm very proud. I am over the moon about winning the Irvine Bay competition and it has been a brilliant experience working with many different people to help develop my designs to the finished product."
With 3TFM broadcasting live shows daily from the hut, Scott's creation functions as the focal point of the Big on the Beach festival which sees Irvine Bay Regeneration team up with North Ayrshire Council to bring a week of summer fun which culminates on Friday with a beach party, running until 8.30pm.
Fifteen pupils entered the design competition, and with pupils asked to come up with a theme or source of inspiration from which to direct their creativity, Scott derived ideas from the Syndney Opera House, celtic designs and fishing boat structures.
