THOUSANDS of exam results dropped through the letterboxes of Ayrshire students last week.

National figures show that a new record pass rate of 74.6% was achieved for Highers and, while plenty of students were delighted with their results, over 1600 calls have been received by the Skills Development Scotland Exam Results Helpline from students since Higher and Standard Grade results were sent out.

This figure is almost double the 796 calls received last year on results day, with around 200 calls per hour received at peak times.

Skills Development Scotland Chief Executive Damien Yeates said: “This can be a very stressful time for young people and their families and it is very encouraging to see that so many of them have called on the practical support on offer from our helpline advisers. They can help young people make the most of the results they have worked so hard to achieve and to maximise their opportunities for the future.”

Calls to the Exam Results Helpline - on 0808 100 8000 - are free and the helpline will remain open until August 28 from 9am until 6pm on weekdays and 9am until 5pm on weekends.

Higher and Standard Grade pupils throughout North Ayrshire will be offered support and advice, whatever their exam results.

All pupils between S4 and S6 will be offered an opportunity to speak one to one with their guidance teacher when they return to school on Tuesday, August 17. Anyone who is particularly concerned, however, can get in touch with the school now, as many senior teaching staff will be available to speak to them.
