THE Mona Queen car ferry is pictured in August 1985 on her last voyage from Ardrossan to Douglas on the Isle of Man.

Built by Ailsa shipyard in Troon, the Mona Queen was launched by owners the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company in 1971 and made regular sailings from Ardrossan to Douglas for over a decade. From Douglas, holiday-makers from Ardrossan made crossings to Liverpool, Heysham, Belfast and Dublin before the introduction of cheap flights and holiday packages to destinations further afield.
