THE Tories have selected Maurice Golden as their Cunninghame North candidate for the forthcoming elections to the Scottish Parliament.

At the General Election this year, Mr Golden stood in Central Ayrshire and polled enough votes to take second place ahead of the SNP. The constituency was won by the incumbent, Brian Donohoe MP.

The sitting MSP for Cunninghame North is Kenneth Gibson of the SNP, who succeeded Labour's Allan Wilson in 2007. Mr Golden's predecessor as Conservative candidate, Philip Lardner, was placed third.
