David crowned karate world champ

AN Ayrshire karate kid has been crowned world champion at a recent prestigious competition in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Representing the Scottish Karate Alliance, David Carter (16) took first place in the cadets (aged 15-17 years) section at the 2010 World Union of Karate -do Federation (WUKF) championships. Attending Belmont Academy in Ayr, David is a long-term pupil of the Burakudo Shotokan Karate Club who train in Ardrossan, Ayr, Prestwick, Troon, Irvine, Stewarton, Hurlford and Symington. The teen’s remarkable achievement is the culmination of an arduous eight years of training sessions at least three times a week, with competitions every four weeks.
