TRAIN services were temporarily brought to a halt on Friday afternoon in Saltcoats after a woman was reportedly spotted sitting on the railway line as a train approached.

British Transport Police were alerted shortly after 2pm when the driver of the Largs to Glasgow train reported seeing a female on the line.

The driver applied his emergency brakes and sounded his horn and a full search of the line was then carried out by police, assisted by a Strathclyde Police helicopter.
