CASH-STRAPPED North Ayrshire Council have decided to spend thousands of pounds on a POSSIBLE visit of the Tall Ships to Arran, despite no application for funding assistance even being lodged.

Over one thousand pounds of public money has already been committed to the venture after funding requests from Arran Yacht Club who - keen to see the ships stop off at Lamlash Bay en route to their scheduled visit to Greenock - had issued an invitation to the 2011 Tall Ships Race organisers. Considering the 'funding requests' at a meeting on June 9 were councillors on the Ardrossan, Arran, Saltcoats & Stevenston Area Committee who - in March of this year - granted £1,187.51 in funding but expressed concerns after a staggering £9,000 was being requested despite no guarantees that any ships would stop at Arran.
