POLICE have expressed their amazement that drink-driving continued locally right through the festive season - despite hurricane-force wind, snow and driving rain.

In each of the four weeks of the Association Of Chief Police Officers Scotland (ACPOS)' annual clampdown, the problem persisted across North Ayrshire and the rest of the Strathclyde Force's area of operations.

Final numbers of those caught driving under the influence of drink or drugs were due to be released as we went to press on Wednesday.
