"THREAT TO OUR CLUBS' EXISTENCE"
A JUNIOR football chairman whose team have just played their first game in two months because of bad weather says it's time for a winter shutdown.
Ardrossan Winton Rovers' Dougie Rae said the eight-week absence of football at Winton Park - the third in three years such a lengthy stretch of postponements since he took over at the club - shows it's time the Scottish Junior Football Association took a common-sense approach and went for summer football before clubs go to the wall.
Mr Rae, who installed a new management team at Winton this week following the recent-departure of league winning boss Derek Frye, said: "It surely doesn't make sense and is unfair on clubs and supporters that we have this insistence on playing football under the worst possible conditions - and that's when we can play at all."
