US PRESIDENT'S KILWINNING LINK
THE KILWINNING connections of US President William H Taft have come to light in a newspaper article sent to the Herald this week.
A copy of Idaho's Lewiston Morning Tribune dated February 19, 1999 details how Taft - who had been elected but had yet to have his inauguration - was raised to the status of master Mason in a ceremony in Cincinnati the previous day with a large Kilwinning involvement.
The story states: "The highest Masonic authority of 17 states witnessed Mr Taft's admission into the order as did the members of Kilwinning lodge of which the father of the president-elect was a member and in which Charles P Taft was inducted under the auspices of his father."
