HERALD reporters have been in contact with the MET office, Prestwick Airport and other agencies in an attempt to discover the origins of these unusual lights.

Further exclusive pictures have been obtained from quick thinking eye witnesses, who used their high tech camera phones to capture the strange phenomenon.

News of the sightings has also spread across the Atlantic and been discussed on air on an American radio station, and featured on several International websites.
