The county"s troops came home heroes from Iraq and Afghanistan last Monday - and the streets of Ayr were packed as residents came out in their thousands to welcome home our troops from the twin frontlines in the War On Terror.

And this weekend it"s the turn of the Fallen of those conflicts, the two World Wars, Northern Ireland, Kenya, Aden and many other theatres of war besides to be quietly celebrated as we say: 'We Will Remember Them'.

Remembrance Sunday on November 9 will see the usual quiet ceremonies at war memorials in towns and villages across North Ayrshire.

One of the largest attendances is always at the Royal British Legion Scotland"s in Saltcoats, where there is also a parade through the town. All organisations attending are asked to gather at the Labour Club at 10.20am. The previous day, street collectors will be out in force in the town centre, so look out for them, folks.

Ardrossan"s event will head off from the library at 12.50pm. Following the parade, there will be a Service of Remembrance from 1.30pm at the gardens in Glasgow Street.

In Stevenston, a memorial service will be held at the War Memorial on New Street at 1.30pm.

In Dalry, the parade will form up in the Main Street car park at 10.15 am and will march to the Cenotaph in Dalry Public Park for a short service at 11 am, followed by the 2 minute silence. Poppy wreaths will be laid by various organisations and the parade will return via Roche Way where the salute will be taken by the president of the local British Legion, the Depute Lord Lieutenant and local councillors.

In Kilwinning, you can take part by gathering in the Vaults Lane car park next to the Abbey at 10.15am before proceeding through the town centre.
