Big Brother’s Mikey is celebrity guest as St Matthew’s pupils go on the catwalk

GLITZ and glamour was the order of the day at the recent St Matthew"s fashion show and a celebrity guest even popped in.

Pupils worked extremely hard alongside Modern Languages teacher Miss Liddle to organise the event and they invited Mikey Hughes, star of Big Brother, to join them.

The models were loaned dresses from Debenhams in Ayr, Cuco Couture in Troon, Glitz in Kilmarnock, Bridal Path in Saltcoats and MacKenzie in Ayr provided the boys with their kilts, including Mikey"s outstanding dalmation print kilt.

Over the course of the evening a whopping £1,778 was raised which will be sent to a school in Malawi called St Peter"s, which St Matthew"s is linked with.

The fashion show wasn"t the only form of entertainment though. As well as Mikey"s appearance, the senior choir sang Adieamus which is a traditional African song.

First and second year pupils modelled jewellery that they had made themselves as well as some African dress.

A group of pupils and teachers will be visiting St Peter"s in Mzuzu in June to help them with any projects they have. The St Peter"s pupils will then visit St Matthew"s in 2010.
