Concerned parents with youngsters at Stanley Primary in Ardrossan have stepped up their campaign opposing the siting of a mobile phone mast near the school.

Operators Vodafone say the 50-foot mast will be perfectly safe, but the families aren"t convinced, and plan to launch formal objections when the proposals go before North Ayrshire Council. They have arranged a public meeting for Thursday, February 5 and are being supported by Cunninghame Housing Association, whose vice-chairwoman Margaret Munn spoke to the Herald as Stanley Primary Parents" Group members staged a protest next to the school recently.

The Association plan to develop the empty site, which housed the old school buildings before the construction of the new primary.

The protesters point to other instances where similar mast proposals have been successfully opposed elsewhere, and say that another site should be found if the mobile phone facility is to go ahead.
