Businesses thrown out weeks before Christmas
TRADERS have been put out on the street after police shut down Saltcoats Indoor Market.
The premises were closed on Thursday after the owners failed to renew their Traders' Licence, which expired in September. Several warning letters had been sent from North Ayrshire Council to but they were ignored.
Now four businesses have had to cease trading weeks before Christmas.
Rick O'Brien has run Music Man/Cards within the market for 17 years and told the Herald: "I am absolutely gutted. My business, along with several others, has been put in jeopardy and we are currently in the process of moving our stock to a shop on Dockhead Street because of this.
"It is the most important time of the year for me because Christmas is just around the corner."
Angie Magon, who is the co-owner of the Indoor Market, claims the council is to blame. She said: "We never received any warning regarding our licence renewal."
