Cuts bite as 1000 jobs go

NORTH Ayrshire Council are to slash their staff by around a thousand in a move unions have branded 'horrendous'.

In a statement released this week, council leader David O'Neill admitted the organisation needed to shed 12 per cent of its workforce by 2014.

He said: "The council currently employs 7300 full and part-time staff. By April 2014, we estimate that the total workforce will be reduced by 800 and 1000 posts.
