LONG overdue silverware success was finally savoured by Kilwinning Rangers, when they defeated Largs Thistle 1-0 in the Ayrshire Weekly Press Cup final at Meadow Park on Saturday.
And it was the first trophy lifted by goalscorer and hometown boy Bryan Boylan in his time at Abbey Park.
He told Sportscene: "It's taken me six years to get a silverware at Kilwinning but I am delighted. I hope to build on this next season. To only win four league games out of 12 after Christmas is not acceptable. We could have had the league won by March, but it wasn't to be. It was just good to finish the season on a high."
Skipper Ben Lewis, who has a testimonial in what will be his 10th season at Abbey Park said: "It's a great relief to win something, the club deserve to be winning trophies and it was a special moment for me to lift it. We didn't do as well as would have liked to in the league and ended up fourth after being first most of the season."
It was very much a family affair for the Wardrope family, with goalkeeper Michael Snr and his nephew Michael Jnr both winning a medal.
Michael Jnr said: "It was great to win the trophy and end the season on a high. It was nice my uncle was in the team with me to celebrate."
