HIGHLY-rated KILBIRNIE LADESIDE striker Jamie Longworth is a possible signing target of Ayr United after Somerset Park club boss Brian Reid saw him net a double last midweek.

Now the Honest Men have been granted permission to talk to the 22-year-old targetman who has bulged the net more than 30 times this season with a striker the top target for the Barr's Irn-Bru Second Division manager.

Reid watched Longworth star in Kilbirnie's 5-1 Evening Times Cup quarter-final victory at Cumbernauld last Wednesday and went on to score a last gasp winner in the 2-1 semi-final win at Cumnock on Monday. And he could now join ex-team mate Chris Erskine, who joined Partick Thistle a year ago, in the senior ranks.

For more on this and a preview of Saturday's Evening Times Cup Final between Ladeside and Irvine Meadow see this week's paper.
