THE opening bars from the haunting theme of cult Seventies movie The Omen sounded out as Killie bounced on to Hampden"s hallowed turf for their first major final in six years, with their players quietly confident of a glorious triumph.

But, tragically for Killie and their fans, this was a horror show every bit as chilling as lead character Damien"s tale of terror as they were quite simply thrashed 5-1 by a ruthless and clinical Hibees side who were desperate for success after a trophy drought spanning 16 years.

Following a highly-entertaining first half in which the 1997 Tennent"s Scottish Cup winners were outplayed, although at least competed, after the break they were torn apart by the green machine, inspired by double-dazzler, Moroccan Abdessalam Benjelloun and electric Irishman Ivan Sproule. Gordon Greer got their consolation.
