Scottish Hydro-Electric Premiership Division Three ARDROSSAN 45 GARNOCK 12
ON a beautiful sunny spring afternoon Ardrossan hosted local rivals Garnock at Memorial Field.
The visitors, having been victorious in the last five meetings with their derby rivals were targeting this game as a possible victory. The expectation was shattered by a well-drilled and physically fit Ardrossan squad.
The game started well for Garnock.
They kicked off towards the Saltcoats end and camped in the Ardrossan half for the first couple of minutes.
The hosts tried to ruck and maul their way upfield but the smaller and lighter Garnock pack stood their ground. The best attack early on saw the Garnock three-quarters from scrum half Paul McCrorie pass to brother Gareth who immediately involved his two centres Michael Jamieson and PJ Eadie. They in turn released winger Declan Goldie whose thrust to the line was halted by very good Ardrossan cover defence. All this with just five minutes played.
