Ardrossan Under-16s bounce back
Ardrossan Accademicals 61 Garnock 19
Ardrossan Under-16s Rugby bounced back from their defeat last week at Newton Stewart with a well earned victory over local rivals Garnock on Sunday at the Memorial Field.
On a lovely sunny afternoon the early signs for Ardrossan were not encouraging. Almost from the kick off Garnock scored a try down the centre which was followed by another in quick succession.
Garnock had 12 on the board and it seemed that Ardrossan were in danger of falling further behind.
However, a break by number nine Eltringham from a scrum on the 10-metre line lead to an infringement by Garnock on the 22.
Stand-off Hedger put away the resulting penalty kick and Ardrossan were on the board. Another penalty followed by a try in the corner by number eight Beaumont settled the local team.
Thereafter it was largely one-way traffic with Garnock having no answer to the pace of the Ardrossan wide men, Clarke and MacDonald who scored a hat-trick of tries each.
Flanker Campbell was rewarded with a fine try after running 60 metres to score. In his first match Rennie scored after great interplay involving Clarke and Grant. Once again Lewis’s place kicking was high quality.
Garnock did score late in the match to give the scoreline a little more respectability.
The result is another good one for a team with a number of inexperienced players.
A number of boys who’ve come to training recently on Tuesday evenings are making a big impact on the team
