One of Ardrossan’s much-loved eateries has closed its doors for the last time.

Garfield’s Tapas and Wine Bar shut up shop yesterday (Monday, April 29) after more than eight years trading in the town’s Princes Street.

Owners Paula Fisher and David Rogers have decided to call it a day and plan to enjoy retirement together.

The following message was posted on their Facebook page: “It is with great sadness that we announce that after eight and a half years, Garfield’s will be closing its doors.

“We have loved every minute of it and cannot thank you all enough for all the support and custom over the years.

“It’s now an opportunity for us to enjoy some time to ourselves.

“Adios.

“David, Paula and Darren and all staff from over the years!”

Members of the community reacted to the news on social media with sadness and messages of well wishes.

Marilyn Wilson commented: “Absolutely shocked to hear this. Had many a good time there, with great food and fab service from Paula, Darren and the rest of the staff. Best wishes in whatever your future plans are.”

Magi Aanderson described the bar’s closure as “a big loss to Ardrossan”.

Julie Mclaughlan said: “So sorry to hear this. We loved dropping in and will miss the fantastic staff, delicious food, tastiest drinks and wonderful atmosphere. Wishing you all good health and happiness in the future.”

Diane Killin added: “So sorry to hear this. You will be sadly missed. Loads of lovely times and good memories in Garfield’s. All the best in whatever is next.”
