Tributes have been paid to an Ardrossan dad following his sudden death.

John Howieson, 53, a former fire fighter, was found dead on Sunday, April 5, at his home on Dockers Gardens.

His daughter Lauren Howieson, 22, said his personality and sense of humour touched everyone he met.

She told the Herald: “My dad was so fun to be around, I was always laughing and smiling when I was with him. We were so alike, two peas in a pod.

“His infectious personality and daft jokes are what I’ll miss most.

“My best friend and dad rolled into one, a hole in my heart that will never be filled.

“I will miss and love him forever.”

John was born at Ayrshire Central Hospital. He was with the fire service for 28 years and was well known in the Three Towns.

He was a much loved member of Ardrossan Outdoor Bowling Club, where he spent his time off.

A spokesperson for the club said: “We were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of John Howieson.

“John always had a warm and friendly smile on his face and had a great personality too. He will be missed by all at ABC.

“Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time. RIP, John.”

Lauren said it was lovely to see the club’s kind words.

There is no date for John’s funeral yet as the family are waiting for the post mortem to be carried out.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, there will be a family service at the crematorium with a maximum of 10 people.

Lauren said: “Once this is all by, we hope to give him the send off he deserves.

“We don’t have dates yet as we are still waiting on death certificate and post mortem. Sadly we still don’t know what happened.”
