Flooding on the railway lines between Saltcoats and Ardrossan caused major disruption.
Services for Largs and Ardrossan were made to terminate at Kilwinning.
The action was taken by ScotRail last night as a safety precaution after reports of the issue caused by heavy rainfall throughout the day yesterday.
Early this morning the line between Saltcoats and Ardrossan South Beach remained closed from the start of service until 'the water recedes sufficiently' with all services between Glasgow and Ardrossan/Largs terminating or starting at Kilwinning until further notice.
UPDATE: At 8.45am, ScotRail announced that the flooding had subsided and that services could now run again.
NEW: We've had reports of flooding between Saltcoats and Ardrossan. For safety reasons, trains for Largs & Ardrossan will only run as far as Kilwinning until the water level drops to a more suitable level. pic.twitter.com/W6IGRgU64j
