AN EMBARRASSED boss handed over £2,000 for damages at Arran’s Douglas Hotel during a drinking session after a scantily dressed contract worker threatened to kill staff.
Derek Mitchell, 33, admitted threatening and abusive behaviour while working on the Isle of Arran in March 2019 when he appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on March 12.
The court heard Mitchell, of Monkton, had been drinking heavily and the night porter noticed a small safe – usually secured to a work top – on the ground near the entrance at around 11.05pm.
The porter contacted the manager who instructed him to stay in reception with CCTV showing the accused removing the safe and police being contacted at 12.05pm
The Procurator Fiscal said Mitchell appeared and began striking the door and aggressively shouting “let me in”, then “baldy c***”, and “I’m going to kill you”.
When police arrived at 12.15am they noted Mitchell scantily dressed, barefoot and “extremely intoxicated”.
His defence solicitor said Mitchell’s employer was “not best pleased and paid £2,000 there and then which was recovered from his wages”, before he was fined £500.
