Ice hockey has finally resumed play at Auchenharvie Ice Rink, thanks to the changes to restrictions allowing for the sport to return.
Kirsty Massie, from the North Ayrshire Ice Hockey Club, told the Herald: “We have now been back on the ice for six weeks now and the players are starting to find their ice legs again.
“Our training sessions have been going well, complying with COVID regulations, temperature checks, travelling kitted up to practice or changing in the car park, no parents allowed in the rink.
“It’s not ideal, but our players are happy to comply, just so that they can get back to training and back in the rink. We would like to thank the KA Leisure staff at Auchenharvie Ice Rink for helping keep our players safe and keeping us on the ice.”
The focus for the club now is for players to begin rebuilding their fitness after the pre-longed period of time off the ice.
She continued: “For the last four weeks we have been able to arrange some friendly matches and it’s great to see our players at all age groups, getting back into the swing of the sport they love and have missed for so long.
“We are building up their fitness and sharpening their skills while rekindling their team spirit.”
The club are looking for additional players of all age groups to strengthen our teams and welcome enquiries from anyone who is interested.
They have a special offer for newcomers to ice hockey.
The first two weeks are free, and the following eight weeks for only £40. They can also hire you equipment for the duration of your 10 week course (subject to availability).
