Sir, In our Stevenston Debating/Monitor Group we discussed the North Ayrshire Council and Boundary Commission on their suggestion to alter the political council wards boundaries as published in the Herald dated June 16, 2021.
We believe that the Isle of Arran should have its own resident councillor, but dividing the other Three Towns in the way that was suggested with Ardrossan being on its own natural boundary is bad whilst Saltcoats and Stevenston are to be amalgamated into one ward is even crazier.
It was discussed that the easier way to reach the community was to have a central position in each burgh town boundaries. It’s own Community Council discussing with their own ward councillors and community.
The next suggestion was to annex the existing ward boundaries and replace these boundaries to their historical heritage boundaries in North Ayrshire Council have the vision to recommend this as it would create a knowledge of the town history, culture, and geography in schools, community groups and create tourism.
For example, the barony and parish of Stevenston and the barony and parish of Ardrossan would be in the ideal situation.
Many thanks and we await comments, Stevenston Debate/Monitor Group.
