THE members of IMC Boxing Club in Saltcoats have been given a knockout cheque from sportscotland to the tune of £31,000.

The Inspire, Motivate and Celebrate Project was set up by Councillor Jim Montgomerie to help keep youngsters off the streets and focused on their fitness.

The gym may be small but it is packed with punch bags, a boxing ring and space for the youngsters to skip and do cardio workouts with Jim and the coaches.

To help with the running costs of the Springvale Street boxing gym, he applied for funding from sportscotland.

And last week they received their official plaque and cheque.

Stewart Harris, sportscotland Chief Executive said: “Everyone at the Inspire, Motivate and Celebrate Project has demonstrated a real ambition and commitment to improving the lives of people in their community through sport and physical activity.

“I am delighted that we can help secure the project’s facility and help to expand their activities.”
