The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) have been clamping down on untaxed cars and vehicles in Ardrossan over recent weeks.
There have been reports of cars and vans in the area being targeted for not having appropriate registration details or insufficient paperwork.
More than half a million vehicles were declared ‘off the road’ in March 2020, the highest number of SORNs (Statutory Off Road Notifications) made in any month in the past decade. However, car tax rules around a SORN could see thousands of drivers caught out and issued penalties this summer.
RAC spokesman Rod Dennis said SORN “meant very little” before the pandemic but many had used the service to save money.
However as restrictions begin to ease, the RAC has waned thousands may be at risk if they do not understand the strict rules around SORN.
Mr Dennis said: “Before the pandemic, it’s likely the ‘SORN’ acronym meant very little to most people.”
A spokesperson for NSL said: “NSL is the DVLA’s national wheel clamping partner. NSL takes enforcement action against untaxed vehicles seen on the road. I can confirm that the enforcement action taken was part of this day-to-day activity.”
