Family and friends of Jamie Cannon turned up on Sunday to join the mass search as part of ongoing efforts to trace the 19-year-old on the 60th day since he was reported missing.

More than 50 volunteers showed up at 1pm on July 18 to search Stevenston whilst asking people to change their Facebook profile picture to Jamie’s missing poster to raise awareness to further afield.

The group searched the site of the former ICI Ardeer factory for clues of the missing teenagers whereabouts.

Jamie was last seen on Thursday, May 20 around 10am on Kinnier Road. He was reported missing on Saturday, May 22.

The 19-year-old is described as being 6ft 1” tall and was wearing grey jogging bottoms, grey trainers, and a blue jacket when he was last seen. He was also carrying a camouflage backpack.

His disappearance has been described as “completely out of character for him” and his family and friends remain extremely concerned.

At the time, Police Inspector Colin Shearer of Irvine Police Station said: “We are growing concerned for the welfare of Jamie as this is completely out of character for him. His family and friends are extremely worried about him.

“Jamie if you are reading this appeal, I would ask you to make contact with the police or your family or friends to let them know you are safe and well.”

On May 26, Ayrshire’s most senior police officer, Chief Superintendent Faroque Hussain, issued a plea to Jamie to make contact, asking him to get in touch with the police, family, or friends ‘to let them know you are safe and well’.

Police continued to appeal to the wider public for any information on his whereabouts.

Most recently, on July 1, cops made yet another appeal for information to help trace the man.

Sergeant Allen Dodds said: Inspector Alison Wilson of Saltcoats Police Office said:“As time goes by we are increasingly concerned for the welfare of Jamie. We are urging residents to check any sheds or outbuildings that they have for signs that Jamie may have taken shelter there.

“We are extremely grateful to members of the public who have assisted us already. We remain committed to utilising all resources available to us, in conjunction with the tremendous effort from the local community, to locate him. If you have seen him then please contact us without hesitation.”
