It is hard not to be inspired by 13-year-old team GB skateboarder Skye Brown - the world’s youngest Olympian- as she brought home a Bronze medal at the Toyko Olympics this summer, inspiring the future generations of the growing street sport.
Skateboarding has only recently become an Olympic sport- but closer to home, the Evolution skatepark in Stevenston is looking to support the next generation of professional skaters.
They will be holding a free fun day this Saturday [August 14] to let the community see facilities and to get the chance to take part in the skating action.
Committee member Sara-Anne Kerr told the Herald: “I’m really keen to make a big thing of the support from the local businesses after the year they have had. The funday is for the whole community and is free thanks to generous funding.”
Those that come along can get access to the skatepark and the BMX track, as well as inflatables, a bottle stall, raffles, as well as a DJ. It will run between12-4pm this Saturday.
Sara-Anne continued: “The aimis to boost awareness of the park being inclusive to all and to help ensure a successful year ahead with hopefully, lots of new members.”
