A man who quit his job to deliver cookies to the three towns since the height of the pandemic last year has now opened as a retail shop.
And last week's launch event saw them selling out of their signature cookie and cookie shake.
'Milkies Cookies' is the brainchild of Nathan Quinn, who alongside his mum Nikki, began baking cookies in their home kitchen and delivering boxes to hungry three towners during the last lockdown.
The name came from Nathan’s son who calls his milk before bed, ‘milkies’, and what’s a better combo than milk and cookies. Hence, Milkies, their multigenerational family business was born.
Milkies' mission statement simply states: "Our cookies were made not just for eating but to be experienced with a smile. They are to be savored, shared, and gifted. A symbol of joy for every community."
The business grew so popular Nathan was able to give up his web manager job to pursue his cookie-making dreams full time.
He told the Herald: "I was working as a web manager for an online baking firm and baking in my spare time.
"When lockdowns carried on, my mum and I thought it was a good idea to bake to cheer people up. We wanted to put a smile on people's faces after a long year.
"We had cookies all over the place. And we were delivering them around the Three Towns. We started to get regular orders, customer loyalty was so important in opening the shop.
Milkies opened last weekend [Friday, September 25] and they were packed out all day.
"It went amazing, it exceeded all expectations, we were just blown away with the support we got. I don't think we got the chance to sit down all day.
"We opened from 12 - 9, it was just non-stop the entire time.
"By night time we had so many people phoning into the shop for deliveries, we had to stop them because we had so many people into the shop.
"There is a lot of dessert shops in the Three Towns that focus on offering everything, whereas we just wanted to focus on just cookies, our specialty. We don't try to spread ourselves too thin, we just wanted to make great cookies.
"We are open from Wednesday to Saturday, 12 - 9, with Tuesday as our bake day.
"We will keep it like that for now until we know what the shop is going to be like, then we might open up more days.
"It was queued out the door, at one point we had to put staff outside and let people in one at the time because we make each cookie fresh, hot and by request - so they build their own.
"We sold out of nearly everything."
