AN Ayrshire-based Team GB skater who was set to challenge for Olympic gold has been withdrawn from the race.
Kathryn Thomson, who was born in Kilmarnock, is part of the Ayrshire Flyers Speed Skating Club who train at Auchenharvie Ice Rink in Saltcoats.
She was set to take part in the short track speed skating at the Beijing Winter Olympics today, Wednesday, February 16, representing Great Britain in the women's 1500m quarter finals.
However, it has now been confirmed by the official Team GB Twitter feed that Kathryn will not skate in the competition due to medical reasons.

This was Kathryn's second Olympics having been part of the 2018 team in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
