BUSINESSES and services across North Ayrshire have chosen to shut their doors early today as a result of Storm Dudley.

With severe weather expected to affect Scotland from Wednesday afternoon, bringing a period of very strong and disruptive winds, ScotRail previously confirmed that there would be no rail services past 4pm, with CalMac Ferries also confirming there will be no sailings between Ardrossan and Arran.

And the transport agencies are not the only companies battening down the hatches, with others across the area shutting early.

Ayrshire's Wee Fish Van, which normally operates out of Saltcoats, posted on Facebook: "Ladies and gentlemen due to storm Dudley we are unable to go to Arran, therefore we will be parked outside the Seahorse Bookstore at ASDA from 10am, why not go in and have a coffee then on the way out get some delicious fresh fish, seafood or homemade fish cakes for your tea... Our other van will be doing its usual stops in the Three Towns."

Meanwhile, popular vegetarian and vegan cafe Moke Ardrossan confirmed: "Storm Dudley announcement - due to the severe weather warnings in place for the coming storm we will be closing today at 2.30pm and will be closed tomorrow. This is to ensure the safety of our customers and team. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause."

West of Scotland Football League side Irvine Meadow also confirmed tonight's match against Benburb FC is off, while Kilbirnie Ladeside's game against Auchinleck Talbot has also fallen victim to the weather.

Irvine's walkthrough Covid-19 test centre at Harbour Road will also be closed today, as well as the unit at Dalry Fire Station.
